Google AI Overviews
How to hide Google
AI Overviews
Google doesn't offer a setting to turn off AI Overviews. You can click the Web tab on every search, change your default search engine, or let a free extension remove the AI box for you - on Google and on Bing.
Every method that works
Four ways to get rid of AI Overviews
From built-in and manual to fully automatic. The first three are free and need nothing installed.
Click the Web tab
Under the search box, choose Web (it may sit under More). You get plain links with no AI Overview.
- Works anywhere, nothing to install
- You have to click it on every search
- Images, news and other panels disappear too
Make Web results your default
Chrome Settings > Search engine > Manage search engines and site search. Next to Site search click Add, use the URL https://www.google.com/search?q=%s&udm=14, then choose Make default from its menu.
- Every address-bar search opens Web results
- Only on that browser profile
- You lose the regular All results layout
Query tricks
Tricks like adding "-ai" to a search have circulated. They change what you searched for and tend to stop working when Google adjusts the page.
- Free and instant
- Unreliable over time
- Do nothing for AI Mode or Bing
Install PureFeed
Keeps Google's normal All results and removes just the AI parts, on every search, on Google and Bing.
- AI Overview box and AI Mode button hidden
- Bing Copilot answers hidden
- Free and unlimited, runs inside the page
What PureFeed removes
Only the AI parts. Your results stay.
PureFeed takes out the generated answers and leaves the links, images, maps and knowledge panels people actually use.
On Google
- AI Overviews above the results
- The AI Mode button and tab
- Optional (Pro): Web-only results on every search
- Optional (Pro): pre-ChatGPT results only
On Bing
- The generative answer at the top of results
- Copilot answer boxes
- The Copilot tab
Why people switch them off
Get to the page a person wrote
AI Overviews sit above the first result and push links down the page. They summarise sources without showing you who wrote what, and when they get something wrong they get it wrong in a confident voice at the top of the screen.
If you would rather read the recipe, the forum thread or the documentation yourself, removing the AI box puts that first again. PureFeed does it without changing how Google ranks anything - it only hides the generated parts in your browser.
The same extension also cleans your feeds: likely AI-written posts, ragebait and negativity on LinkedIn, Reddit, X, YouTube and Pinterest fold away with a reason you can see.
Hide AI Overviews on every search
Free, unlimited, and nothing about your searches leaves your browser. Works on Google and Bing from the moment you install.
